Save Money by Paying Attention to How You Travel

If you do a lot of traveling, then you know how much money goes into that such endeavors. Maybe you’re a budget-conscious person, maybe you’re not.

Perhaps you’re precisely aware of where your resources go, but it’s also possible you’re a little looser with the details. No matter where your personality and habits fall, though, you should recognize that anyone can save a ton of money by paying attention to exactly how one travels.

Think about driving a car versus going on a motorcycle. What about private versus public transportation? If you know you’re going to fly somewhere, do you purchase your tickets ahead of time?

And how much money do you think you could save by taking vacations to places during the off season? Thinking about these issues can improve your travel budgeting.

Car or Motorcycle

Are you a car person or a motorcycle person? Sometimes the answer comes down to logistics. If you have a family of five, you’re probably not going to to travel by motorcycle very often.

However, if it’s just you, you should be aware that you can save a lot of money by buying a motorcycle and traveling that way instead of by car. The gas mileage is stupendously better. And a good bike will cost quite a bit less than a good car in the long run, particularly when it comes to maintenance and upkeep.
Remember, though, that if you plan to take a long road trip on your bike, you need to keep some tools handy in case of emergencies. Although you could find help along the way if you happen to need it, it’s never a bad idea to be prepared. Keeping some basic tools you may need to keep your bike functioning well, like a motorcycle specific battery charger, might help you travel easier and without having to spend too much.

Private or Public Transportation

If you live in a city, there’s the matter of private versus public transportation. Owning a car can be tough in a place like Los Angeles or New York. It’s expensive to buy one, extremely costly to park, and because of gridlock traffic, you’re often wasting a lot of time and gas.

If you choose to take public transportation, your costs will go dramatically down. Once you get better at using public transit, eventually it becomes second nature.

Buying Flight Tickets Ahead of Time

If you know that you’re going to be flying somewhere, there are many different ways to save on ticket prices. The biggest one is that you can strategize to buy cheap tickets in the perfect time frame.

Purchasing tickets well in advance is one way to do it. But there are other ways to look ahead and see which days of the week offer the lowest prices through various airlines.

Taking Vacations in the Off Season

Then there’s the matter of the long-distance vacation. If you plan, you can travel to fantastic tourist destinations for a surprisingly reasonable amount of money; just go in the off season.

There are lots of benefits to this, including the fact that prices for accommodations will much lower. Traffic will also be lighter, and you get more of the local feel of the area rather than being crushed by other tourists.
