When you have a job that relies on driving sales, an introverted personality can be a major obstacle. It doesn’t have to completely stop you from being a fantastic salesperson, however. All it takes is playing the role of your job the same as if you were an actor in a film.
Your natural personality is one that you carry with you at the end of the day when you close the office doors and go home for the day. When you’re on the job you have to immerse yourself completely. Try these strategies for being the best at sales that you can be.
Rely On Your Script
If you find yourself struggling with what to say to a potential client because your timid personality is by nature the first thing that steps forward, rely on your script. Having something to fall back on is a great way to fill in the voids of conversation.
The important thing is to maintain a balance between it being a script you can use as a crutch for content, but should also be delivered in a conversational and unrehearsed manner. The only way to really master this is to practice every day. The more you practice, the more you will be able to sell as if you aren’t really selling at all.
Many call centers require their call center employees to have a mirror in front of them as they call. Studies show that salespeople that smile have a much higher rate of closing proposals than those who do not. Even if your customer can’t see you, they can sense the happiness in your tone and increased confidence.
Smiling not only makes you more trustworthy, but it also encourages your customers to do the same.
Don’t Take No Personally
Statistically, you’re going to hear “no” a lot more than you’re going to hear “yes.” This has nothing to do with you, however. Remember, you’re selling a product, not yourself. If someone simply isn’t interested it doesn’t have to mean that it has anything to do with you.
Remember, you can be selling the most delicious hamburger in the world. But the fact of the matter is, some people are simply vegetarians.
One of the best things you can do is stay resilient in your efforts. Sales are all about numbers. Try and try and keep trying. The more practicing you do, the more fluid your sales technique will become even with a more reserved personality.
