Moving house can bring about unnecessary stress upon any family, so ensuring that it goes as smoothly and well planned as possible is of utmost importance. We’re all too aware of how much you must have on your plate right now, so we’ve devised a quick list of our top five tips to consider when you are moving house:
- Pack Early
Leaving everything until last minute will only add to stress when moving house, and this will only make you and your other family members harder to collaborate together. You need everyone on board when moving house, so leaving everything ‘til last minute and hectic is a really bad idea. Sit down with the members of your household and draw up some plans: co-ordinate boxes so that you know where things are going to go in your new building – this way nothing will get lost, and you can get life back to normal as soon as possible.
- Meet the Neighbours
Chances are, your new neighbours will already know that someone new is moving into the neighbourhood but, if you don’t get a welcome visit in the first few days of your move, you might want to nip round and introduce yourself: making friends with neighbours can be of exponential help in your day to day life – and it’s always nice to have people who care about you living nearby. Invite people over for a cup of tea, or even hold a housewarming party, if you’re feeling brave.
- Re-Direct Your Post
Somehow, everyone always forgets to do this until the last minute, and then post goes all over the show and pieces get missed. Make sure that you get in touch with your post provider and set up a redirection in good time before you move – you need the transition to be smooth, especially if you work from home or receive a great number of bills.
- Jazz It Up
When you move in, treat yourself to some new pieces of furniture for your new place. No, we’re not talking a whole new three-piece-suite – you really need to be quite careful with cash flow straight after moving. But a couple of little bits and pieces to represent your fresh start will be lovely to look back on after a few years of moving in. New curtains or a new bed-sheet set will set you up for a nice transition into your new place.
- Don’t Worry
Getting stressed out about a house move is something that happens far too regularly for absolutely no reason. Rally together anyone you know who will help you with the move – we’re talking anyone. The more hands you have to help out, the easier the switch will be. All you need to remember is to plan everything sufficiently well and it’ll all slot into place without a hitch. Even if you don’t get everything completely down to a tee; there’s not going to be anything drastically bad to come as a side effect of your move – don’t sweat it!
It’s the most stressful thing we can do in our lives and no amount of advice is enough in my opinion, so why not talk to the professionals as well as reading more about the whole house moving process. Check out these sites to see what I mean:
